Internet disconnection which can severely disrupt digital communication, data access, and the functioning of online systems and services

Risk Mitigation Policy

  1. Install a secondary internet connection (e.g., 4G/5G router or alternate ISP). 
  2. Use real-time monitoring tools to detect disconnection promptly. 
  3. Configure automatic failover to the backup connection in case the primary fails. 
  4. Enable local/offline access to critical applications and files where possible. 
  5. Ensure internet service providers offer high uptime guarantees and responsive support.

Risk Incident Response Procedures

  1. identify internet failure through monitoring tools or user reports. 
  2. Check modems, routers, switches, and physical cables. 
  3. Restart equipment if needed to rule out internal faults. 
  4. Activate a secondary ISP or 4G/5G backup router (automatically or manually). 
  5. Confirm functionality before notifying staff. 
  6. Record time of outage, actions taken, and communications. 
  7. Continue monitoring the status of both primary and backup connections.
